Looking for a new car? You need to keep an eye on the upcoming 2023 Volkswagen Touareg. As one of Volkswagen’s most popular models, the Touareg is getting a makeover with new features.
Key Takeaways
Volkswagen’s SUV, the Touareg, is getting a refresh with updated looks, improved technology, and a new version of the range-topping Touareg R performance plug-in hybrid. This new addition joins the existing line-up of petrol, diesel, and hybrid models, adding a sporting edge to an upgraded line-up with models to suit all lifestyles.
The Touareg boasts high-tech ‘HD Matrix’ headlights with thousands of micro LEDs that create an ‘interactive light carpet’ to enhance night driving. It also features an illuminated VW logo on the rear tailgate with a full-width lighting strip above it, making it a standout vehicle on the road. The updated VW badge can be seen on the front and on the restyled grille. In the R-Line models, a shiny new LED light strip will be fitted across the grille.
The infotainment system has also been upgraded, and seamlessly integrated into a modern, roomy cabin with improved interior material quality. The Innovision Cockpit assists with a 15-inch central touch-screen that comes with enhanced navigation, high-resolution HD map data, voice control, and wireless smartphone integration via a dedicated app.

The Touareg R is a hybrid model that combines a 3.0-liter petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined power output of 462 horsepower, an 80 horsepower hike over the standard hybrid. It also features uprated R-branded brakes, optional 21-inch wheels with high-performance tires, and the option of four-wheel steering, adding further capability and sporting potential.
Orders for the Touareg will open by the end of summer, and it will be on sale by the end of the year. Keep an eye out for the first preview of the updated Touareg at the world premiere in May.
