VW Confirms Passat, Tiguan, and T-Roc Are The Last ICE Cars

vw

Volkswagen has announced that the new T-Roc will be the final internal combustion engine (ICE) car produced before the brand fully transitions to electric vehicles. This is a significant step for Volkswagen and the automotive industry as it shows VW’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally-friendly transportation.

  • Volkswagen’s strategy for full electrification means they will only offer electric models in Europe from 2033
  • The next-generation T-Roc will be the last ever new car introduced in Europe with a petrol or diesel engine

Not quite there yet

It’s worth noting that Volkswagen can still produce new ICE cars until the early 2030s, but this has to be compliant with the new legislation being enforced from 2025 regarding Euro 7 emission standards, and it’s believed that this could be too costly.

While it’s not expected that there will be a reveal for the second generation T-Roc anytime soon, the updated version of VW’s MQB platform may allow for a release of a hybrid or plug-in hybrid model to join the range.
